"This office has a way of waking you up, those aspects of his positions or predispositions that don't match up with reality, he will find shaken up pretty quick because reality has a way of asserting itself." – President Obama during a press conference on November 14, 2016

For the past year, we’ve all witnessed the loud-mouthed, groundbreaking campaign that was the Donald Trump show. From his excessive twitter feed, to his “deplorable” rallies, we’ve seen President-Elect Donald Trump express himself with very little filter. While these rants have come to define his campaign and grow his following, they’ve been a detriment to the divide between the American people. With his inauguration fast approaching, it’s time for President-Elect Donald Trump to step away from the nonsense and run the country.
A man known for his temperament, Trump has made it very difficult for anyone other than his outspoken base to publicly support him or his policies.
A prime example of this issue is in the current media focus on the performances happening later this week at his inauguration. Artists have faced public criticism for accepting roles in the “Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration” which is taking place on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial this Thursday, the day before President-Elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. One singer, Mrs. Jennifer Holiday, was set to perform for this event but has since withdrawn from the show after being heavily criticized by her fans in the LGBT community.
Unless President-Elect Donald Trump starts to control his rhetoric, individuals are going to continue to come under fire just for being associated with him, and his presidency is going to suffer as a result.
However, President-Elect Donald Trump is not the only one at fault in creating this massive split between Americans. Among the other artists who have declined invitations to the Lincoln Memorial show this Thursday, several have felt the need to provide their own negative rhetoric. In posts on twitter, celebrities ICE T and George Lopez both shared their futile thoughts on being asked to take part in the celebration, which only drives the wedge felt between the American people deeper.
In my opinion all of this name-calling, whining, and arguing is ridiculous. The should-be role models of this country are caught up in an aggravating cycle of ignorance and we’ve yet to see one side be the “bigger man.” With President-Elect Donald Trump stepping into the oval office this Friday, the childish back-and-forth needs to stop, and the only way for that to happen is for President Donald Trump to shift his focus to the needs of our country, and the outspoken left to accept the results of election night.
